The death of a loved one, like any significant loss,
causes stress. When, however, the loved one is our child, grief is
particularly severe. Because we have always been responsible for the
child’s well-being, our sense of guilt is greatly exaggerated,
no matter what the cause of death. In addition our sense of order
is disturbed. We expect to bury our parents and, whether we talk about
it or not, we know that our spouse is as apt to die before us as after
us. Not so with our children. Their loss is considered premature at
any age and symbolizes the destruction of our hopes and our futures.
No wonder we can’t handle the tragedy as just one more of life’s
problems!
If you are a bereaved parent of a child of any age please
consider the Abbotsford Chapter of the Compassionate Friends.
Some have lost children very recently, for some the
journey has been longer. But they all know and understand the pain
of separation from their beloved children.
We
meet the first Tuesday of every month.
